On the face of it energy saving light bulbs may not seem cheap. However, for each light bulb it will save you on average £7 a year on electricity bill. Okay, £7 does seem so much but for an average family home that's about £70 a year and electricity is not getting cheaper!
An energy saving light bulb also lasts about 12 times longer than a traditional light bulb.
An energy saving light bulbs work in the same way as fluorescent lights. An electric current passes through gas in a tube, making the tube's coating glow brightly, whereas traditional bulbs waste a lot of their energy by turning it into heat.
