Fairtrade is an international movement which ensures that producers in poor countries get a fair deal. This means a fair price for their goods, one that covers the cost of production and guarantees a living income. It gives you as a consumer the opportunity to use your purchasing power to tilt the balance in favour of the poorer communities of the world.
More retailers than ever are stocking fairly traded products and, as demand increases, a wider range of products are coming onto the market. It's not just coffee, bananas and other food - you can now buy fairly traded clothing, flowers, wine and even footballs!
Elmbridge Fairtrade Network is working to make Elmbridge a Fairtrade borough. In order to do this, they will need your help. For more details, please contact Judy Porter on telephone number 0208 398 6401 or by email at davport@dpmail.co.uk.
When you are next out shopping, keep an eye out for the products marked Fairtrade or fairly traded.
