On average each person in the UK uses 134 plastic bags a year. That's 8 billion plastic bags, which take up to 500 years to decay.
So what can you do? Well, the most environmentally friendly option is to purchase shopping bags or make use of the re-usable bags that some of the most well known supermarkets have on sale. If you are not able to do this, then try using less plastic bags or taking old ones to the supermarket with you to re-use.
