Council Tax is charged on domestic property (whether owned or rented) to help pay for local services, including the requirements of the County Council and Police Authority. Each dwelling has been allocated to one of eight bands based on estimated values at 1 April 1991.

The 2014/2015 charges applicable from 1st April 2014 are shown below. The overall Council Tax charge is made up by contributions to Surrey County Council, Surrey Police, Elmbridge Borough Council and for Claygate only, Claygate Parish Council. The % change from 2013/14 to 2014/15 for Surrey County Council is 1.99%, for Surrey Police it is 1.99%, for |Elmbridge Borough Council it is 0% and for Claygate Parish Council it is 1.4%. The overall % change for the Borough is an increase of 1.7%.
