Sports funding

You can apply for sports funding or support with training through a number of schemes. Find out here about grants, FACS membership and the Elite Scheme.

Sport England - small grants

Small grants are available for clubs that are looking for under £10,000 in either revenue or capital spending. This can be for sports equipment, coaching fees for a project or a combination of both capital and revenue. The small grant cannot be used for permanent fixtures and fittings.

Elmbridge Sports Council Grant Aid for local sports clubs and sports persons

This grant is targeted towards encouraging sporting achievement in the Borough. Both local sports clubs and talented individuals are invited to apply for it to help take their abilities to the next level and compete regionally, nationally or internationally. A total of £10,000 is awarded each year with:

  • Awards of up to £750 for sporting clubs to be put towards the cost of equipment or capital projects.

  • Awards of up to £350 per individual are available to be put towards their training, travelling, competition costs and purchase of equipment. Individuals must have a supporting letter from a club or coach.

Applying for funding

As well as providing direct funding, the Elmbridge Sports Development Team is able help find external funding sources, endorsing a club or an individual's funding applications, and provide more general support or advice.

Active Surrey can help with their grant finder application which requires specific idea of a project.

FACS membership

The FACS Scheme aims to provide county performers with the support and encouragement they require to help them reach their full potential by offering free access to training facilities in Elmbridge. To be eligible for the scheme you must be both:

  • A current county sports person from any Sport England recognised sport, in any age group

  • A resident in the borough of Elmbridge

Sites that you can use include:

  • Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Complex, Waterside Drive, Walton on Thames, KT12 2JG

  • Hurst Swimming Pool, Dunstall Way, East Molesey, KT8 1PD

  • Council owned Tennis Courts

If you would like more information or to apply to be a member, please contact the Sports Development Team or download the FACS Application Form and return with two passport-sized photographs and supporting evidence of your involvement in sport at a county level.

Elite Scheme

Elite is a talent support scheme for national level athletes aged 14-25 designed to give them the best support to reach the very top of their sport. Over 30 local leisure centres have signed up to the scheme including the Xcel Leisure Complex in Walton-on-Thames and the Hurst Pool in Molesey.

As part of the scheme, participants can get free access to 3 leisure centres of their choice as well as discounts to certain sports therapists. In return, Elite members might be asked to act as ambassadors for the local facilities offering their help. This means they might be asked to assist with local events and coaching sessions.
