Food Hygiene Awards

The Elmbridge Food Hygiene Awards reward food businesses which meet high standards of food hygiene during routine, programmed food inspections.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued guidance on how Local Authorities should deliver food enforcement services and Elmbridge Borough Council launched the above awards.

Businesses receive an award if they score well in the risk assessment of their premises. After every routine food hygiene inspection a score is given which determines how frequently the food business will be inspected. The scoring system has been used nationally for many years, and businesses will be familiar with receiving a risk rating following an inspection.

The risk assessment looks at the type of food and the number of people being served, to give a fixed score for the type of premises. Premises are also graded on:

A score of zero is very good, through to 25 which is very bad.

If you see an award certificate in the windowof a caterer in Elmbridge, you will know that they have been recognised for having consistently high standards of food safety.
