What can I put in my blue top bin?
Please only place loose recyclable materials, individually into your bin. Don't place them in a plastic bag or other wrapping.
New! Glass bottles and jars can now go in your blue top bin.
Flatten and tie up large pieces of cardboard and place them next to your bin for collection.
Any Plastic Bottle
- Bleach bottles
- Fizzy drink bottles
- Household cleaning bottles
- Milk bottles
- Personal hygiene bottles
- Shampoo bottles
- Shower gel bottles
- Please don't place any other plastic in your bin.
Where possible, remove plastic bottle lids and place them in
your refuse bin.
Please ignore any recycling codes and icons as they are not
relevant to this service.
Cans and tins
- All steel and aluminium cans and tins.
- Food tins
- Pet food tins
- Sardine tins
- Soup tins
- Please rinse before recycling.
You can also put the lids in your blue top bin.
All paper and card
- Books (reuse if possible)
- Card and cardboard
- Egg cartons
- Envelopes (with and without plastic windows)
- Flour bags
- Greeting cards
- Junk mail (please remove any plastic wrapping)
- Newspaper and magazines
- Office paper
- Paper with staples or glue on
- Sugar paper
- Telephone directories, yellow pages and catalogues
Glass
- Bottles - any colour
- Jars - any colours
If you can't fit all your recycling materials into your blue-top bin then please upgrade your bin free of charge. |Contact us to place an order now.
These items can't be put in your recycling bin:
- Cartons: eg, tetra pack, juice cartons. Take to a |recycling centre.
- |Batteries: Take these to a |recycling centre, or to the |Civic Centre, Esher.
- Other plastic containers: including yogurt pots, margarine tubs, plastic bags, plastic food trays and film, food trays and packaging plastic. Put these in your refuse bin
- Plastic carrier bags: reduce your plastic bag consumption by using re-usable bags available from supermarkets.
- Food waste: please wrap your food waste and place in your refuse bin.
- Garden waste: It's easy to |home compost your|garden waste. You can also compost it by using the council's |kerbside collection service or by take it to a |recycling centre (the tip).
- Shoes/clothing/textiles - You can reuse your textiles, clothing and shoes by giving them to charity shops, friends, or family. If they are unfit for reuse, take them to a |recycling centre.
