Personal Seach
By Telephone
We operate an appointment system for personal searches.
- Opening hours are Monday to Friday 09.30 - 4.00.
- To book an appointment, please telephone the Local Land Charges office on 01372 474195/6.
Every reasonable effort will be made to comply with requests for early access to the Local Land Charges registers but due to heavy demand we do suggest you do not delay in requesting an appointment. We will use our best endeavours to remain flexible. However, we do request that having made an appointment, you try to keep it. Should you find you couldn't keep it, please let us know as soon as possible.
The law makes provision for any individual to inspect the information held on the Local Land Charges Register in respect of a particular property or piece of land. So, by definition, a personal search is only a search of the local land charges register. In addition to inspecting the Local Land Charges register, many personal searchers will also wish to inspect other records held by other departments so as to be able to respond to the CON29. A number of those questions can be answered by inspecting other public records open for public inspection. It should be noted, however, that this does not form part of a personal search as defined by the Local Land Charges Act 1975. It is advisable to check the availability of any additional information, other than the public records, by phone or in writing, with the department(s) concerned, as it may not be possible to provide it "free of charge" or "on demand".
A personal searcher will be allowed to search in the Local Land Charges register. Local Land Charges staff are not always available to assist and therefore a basic knowledge of Local Land Charges and/or the governing legislation would assist.
In order to provide fairer access to all personal search companies, with effect from 21 April 2008 the appointment system was changed to the following
1. The Council will process a maximum of 30 personal searches each day
2. Each personal search company will be able to book a maximum of 9 personal searches for each day.
Printouts from the register will be provided for inspection.
