Not all work requires planning permission, particularly smaller domestic extensions. If you wish to find out whether your particular proposal needs permission you can submit the details on the form below and it will be allocated to a case officer who will be pleased to advise.

Please note that if you wish to receive a formal 'lawful development certificate' there is a |formal application and |fee required.
If you need planning permission you will need to submit a formal application. |Details of the forms and procedures can be found here. However, it is a good idea to seek advice first on whether or not the application will be acceptable.
Please be aware that we aim to deal with applications quickly and do not, as a rule, seek amendments on applications that are 'live'. The Council has an up to date Local Plan.
Charging for Pre-Planning Application Advice
The Council has adopted a regime of charging for advice given prior to applications for planning permission.
The charges payable are for advice about whether or not planning permission is likely to be granted for a particular proposed development.
Minor (1-9 Dwellings or 50-1000 sqm commercial)
£120 per enquiry for written response
£240 per enquiry for a meeting
Major (10-49 Dwellings or 1000-5000 sqm commercial)
£300 per enquiry for written response
£600 per enquiry for a meeting
Strategic (50 plus dwellings or 5000 sqm plus commercial)
£600 per enquiry for written response
£1,200 per enquiry for a meeting
Other (Householder Extensions or up to 50 sqm commercial)
No charge
No charges are payable for advice given to people extending their own home, or anyone seeking advice only as to whether or not planning permission is required for a particular development. At the discretion of the Head of Planning Services no charge will be sought from charities and other non-profit making organisations or statutory bodies and other government authorities. An additional charge may be payable if a site visit is requested.
