Elmbridge Borough Council and the Princess Alice Hospice are working in partnership to provide new Bereavement Cafés within our Claygate and Weybridge Centres for the Community. To help run the cafés we are looking for volunteer listeners to offer support and understanding within a friendly atmosphere.
The service will offer an opportunity for those going through bereavement to meet with others who understand the experience of losing a loved one. Each group meets monthly and provides reassurance to people when they need it the most. Full induction and training will be given to each volunteer, meaning you feel supported in your role.
Diana, a current Bereavement Café supporter says: “It’s a privilege to provide a safe and empathetic place for others to meet and exchange their experiences of loss and to enable them to support one another. The excellent training provides you with the confidence to listen to and meet people”.
Councillor Mrs Ruth Lyon, Portfolio Holder for Social Affairs commented: “Losing some-one close to us can turn our world upside down. Bereavement Cafés can offer a friendly environment to talk about special memories”.
If you are a good listener and would like to volunteer your time to help others please do get in touch. Call 01372 474537 or email email@example.com. For further information please visit our volunteering webpage.
