The Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub, run by Places for People in partnership with Elmbridge Borough Council, is celebrating a successful first few months of operation, since its official opening in September 2017.
The state-of-the-art venue is the home to Walton and Hersham FC, Walton Athletic Club, Walton Casuals and Walton Casuals Juniors, all of which have already seen an impressive increase in participation since their move to the sports hub, with Walton Athletic Club adding 40 new members since September.
A new education hub for Surrey Football Association
Surrey Football Association has chosen Xcel Sports Hub as one of 4 new educational hubs within Surrey for delivering all of its coach education, referee education and safeguarding courses.
Additionally, Surrey FA’s female football taster sessions at Walton Casuals have also proved very popular, with 30 newcomers taking part in the November 2017 launch offered in collaboration with Elmbridge Borough Council, Esher College, Kingston University, Kingston College, Heathside School, Grovelands School, Cleves, Danes Hill and Brooklands College.
Surrey FA said it is thrilled to be part of this new facility; “The new Xcel sports hub has been a fantastic addition to the venues in Surrey. As a learning venue, it provides the perfect atmosphere and the access to not one but two brand new 3G pitches means that we are able to host practical demonstrations in a top quality environment.”
Councillor Janet Turner, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Cultural services at Elmbridge Borough Council is proud of the community spirit shown at the sports hub; “Sports are a great way to bring people together. We have a strong local sporting community in Elmbridge and I hope the sports hub will encourage further participation in the years to come.”
She continued; “The facilities at the Hub also make it the ideal place to hire for social events, private parties and business meetings.”
Active Surrey School Games Football Festival
In 2018, the Xcel Sport Hub will also host the Active Surrey School Games Football Festival, with 20 schools competing over a two-day period.
More than just a sporting venue
Dave Jones, Contract Manager for Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub is delighted that the Xcel Sports Hub is establishing itself as a community hub; “We are extremely pleased that the hub is being so well used by all members of the local community. It is our aim to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle and we will continue to explore new partnerships to open up even more opportunities for people to adopt a love of physical activity.
“However, the sports hub is not just for people looking to take part in physical activity, we have also welcomed a number of people through the doors for party bookings and quiz nights. It’s a real community hub and we are looking forward to welcoming even more people through the doors in the upcoming months.”
