Brooklands Footpath Link Opens
On Thursday 15 July |Councillor Jan Fuller, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, opened the new Brooklands Footpath Link.
The footpath provides an off road link for cyclists and pedestrians alike, between Weybridge station and Brooklands. This not only reduces journey times for those using this path as a means of travelling to work within Brooklands, allowing them to walk or cycle rather than using the car, but provides a pleasant and safe off road route for the local community, linking Brooklands Community Park, Mercedes Benz World and Brooklands Museum with Weybridge train station.
The newly linked path runs from Brooklands Community Park, under Wellington Way by means of the underpass and past the Brooklands Museum, along the bank of the River Wey.
Elmbridge Borough Council, working in partnership with |Mercedes Benz World and |Network Rail, has ensured that this long awaited footpath, which has been supported by the Weybridge Society and local Ward Councillors, has become a reality.
Councillor Fuller said: "Footpaths benefit our region by providing green corridors linking our urban areas. They are an integral part of our local transport system and offer the opportunity to incorporate exercise and enjoyment into our day-to-day journeys without the expense. These inviting public areas enhance the Borough as a preferred place to live and work and as an attractive tourist destination, and therefore contribute to the positive image of the area and local economic development. This is a beautiful time of year to leave the car in the garage and explore the footpaths in this area either as an alternative way to work or the shops, or for relaxation, exercise and to enjoy the wildlife."
