Meals out with the Mayor

Meals out with the Mayor

At Elmbridge Borough Council, we have an excellent team of volunteers who dedicate their time both during the week and at weekends to deliver hundreds of meals to older and vulnerable residents. The Meals on Wheels Service is a hugely valuable service, providing daily visits and enabling people to remain independent in their homes by offering up to three meals each day.

Recently the newly elected Mayor, Councillor Rachael Lake, happily supported the Walton Centre for the Community with a lunchtime round. The Mayor said, “For me Meals on Wheels is one of the best services Elmbridge offers to our vulnerable residents and is highly valued. Volunteers are the lifeblood delivering the service but many more are needed. Details can be found on our website or contact the Voluntary Sector and Support Manager.”

We are urgently looking for more volunteers to support us with this service particularly delivering in the areas of Cobham and Walton. Full induction and training is provided and we are very happy to provide flexible arrangements to fit in with when you are able to help with delivering the meals.

Portfolio Holder for Social Affairs, Councillor Ruth Lyon, said, “This service relies on the commitment of our volunteers. If you want to make a real difference in your local community and be part of a great team of volunteers please do get in touch.”

If you are interested in the role or would like any further information you can call the Voluntary Sector and Support Manager on 01372 474552, email commservices@elmbridge.gov.uk or visit our volunteering page.
