Have you heard about touchtennis but don’t really know what it’s all about or even where to play?
Touchtennis is a shorter version of tennis played on a compact court with a smaller racket (21’’) and a bigger soft ball (8cm diameter). It’s accessible for everyone and suitable for all ages.
If you want to give it a go with World Number 1 and professional coach Elliott Mould, come down to Churchfields Recreation Ground, Weybridge KT13 8DB and join the following free and low-cost taster courses:
Youth sessions (aged 11 to 16): every Sunday for 6 weeks. 1.30pm to 2pm. £2 per session
Female only: every Monday 7.30pm to 8.30pm. No charge, just turn up and play
Over 50s: every Wednesday 2pm to 3pm. £21 for the whole course.
Elliott will teach you the basics of the game and how to make the most of this fun and exciting activity. Rackets and balls will be available and can also be hired from Weybridge Centre for the Community, located next to the courts.
If you enjoy the game, why not make use of the free touchtennis courts at Churchfields Recreation Ground? You can play any day of the week (including the weekend) from 11am till dusk. There’s no need to book just turn up. Players also meet up every Friday night to play friendly games or just hit a few balls with other like-minded people. All these sessions are free of charge.
Cllr Janet Turner, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said, “touchtennis offers great fun for players of all ages and is particularly adapted to beginners, families and less experienced tennis players. If you have always been keen on playing tennis but felt intimidated by the competitiveness of the sport or not felt fit enough to give it a go, why not try out his exciting alternative to mainstream tennis?”
