The Heart shopping centre in Walton-on-Thames has been gifted a defibrillator thanks to the Elmbridge JET, a Joint Enforcement Team which sees Elmbridge Borough Council officers working with Surrey Police to combat anti-social behaviour such as noise and graffiti.
The defibrillator was initially bought for the Elmbridge JET by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Councillor Mary Marshall, Portfolio Holder for Corporate and Community Development commented; “There’s evidence to show that if someone has fallen victim to cardiac arrest then the earlier the defibrillation, the greater chance of survival and the better quality of life post-survival. Having the defibrillator at this busy location will enable all services to benefit as well as our JET team.
All businesses at The Heart shopping centre will be made aware of the location of defibrillator in the centre of the shopping complex and access will be given to local medical services teams.
Mark Middleton, Centre Manager, The Heart added; “As a shopping complex in the centre of Walton-on-Thames we are eager to play our part in the community and we are delighted to have this potentially life-saving defibrillator on site.
