The Sports Personality of the Year Awards

The Elmbridge Sports Personality of the Year Awards are held annually, with categories for sports clubs, teams, individuals and schools.

2011 Awards

The annual Elmbridge Sports Awards Personality of the Year sponsored by |Mercedes Benz World was held on Friday 14 October 2011. The celebration and recognition of the many sporting accomplishments in Elmbridge was a successful evening with 250 people in attendance. The Honourable Mayor Councillor John Sheldon and Sam Bird, a local Formula 2 race driver, presented the awards to all the winners.

There were 14 awards categories and also an awards' presentation for the Surrey Youth Games. The winners are as follows:

  1. Junior Sports Personality - Sophie Mace (Athletics)
  2. Youth Sports Personality - Zack Nickson (Karting)
  3. Senior Sports Personality - Phil Bowden (Martial Arts)
  4. Junior Sports Team - Surbiton Hockey U12 Girls A-Team
  5. Youth Sports Team - Rebeka Simon & Katherine Trotter (Kayaking)
  6. Senior Sports Team - Molesey Boat Club Senior Men's Team
  7. Schools Award (up to 12 years old) - Rowan Preparatory School's U11 Swimming Relay Team
  8. Schools Awards (12-18 years old) - Reed's School 1st Tennis Team
  9. Disabled Sports Award - Mikael Undrom (all round athlete in various sports including athletics, golf and skiing)
  10. Coach of the Year - Cory McGee (Basketball)
  11. Young Volunteer of the Year - Ali Zendehdel (Basketball)
  12. Volunteer of the Year - Dawn Taylor (Football)
  13. Mick Burgess Sports Club of the Year - Surbiton Hockey Club
  14. The Mayor's Award - John & Caroline Turnbull (Rowing)
  15. Surrey Youth Games Awards:
  • Inclusive Sport Award - Billy Walker (Boccia)
  • Coach of the Games - Andy Burtenshaw (Tag Rugby)
  • Team of the Games - Boys Basketball
  • Sports Personality of the Games - Emily Ellis (Girls Football)
  • Volunteer of the Games - Eileen Miler & Janet Cheney (Badminton)

Nominations will open in June 2012 for the 2012 Sports Awards.

Those nominations will be for achievements covering the period of 1 September 2011 to 31 August 2012.

The winners of all the above awards are automatically nominated for the |Surrey Sports Awards.

Award criteria:

  • Nominees must either be a resident of Elmbridge, attend a school or be a member of a sports club in the Borough
  • All achievements must have taken place between 01 September 2010 to 31 August 2011
  • All information requested is essential, any incomplete entries will not be considered
  • For team or school team nominations, only one team can be nominated per application form
  • You may submit as many nominations as you wish
  • All winners of the Elmbridge Sports Personality of the Year Awards will be automatically nominated for the Surrey Sports Awards, this is the only way nominations will be put forward from Elmbridge for the Surrey Sports Awards
  • The decision of the selection panel is final and will be based on the information provided within the application
