Play Equipment for Young People
Installation complete
The new play equipment at George Froude open space and Littleheath Recreation Ground has been fully installed. This new equipment is improving the parks and giving our young people a place to call their own. The equipment is more exciting and gives challenging play opportunities in local communities that have been lacking in this type of provision.
Elmbridge Borough Council secured funding from the BIG Lottery to install play equipment for young people aged 11 years and over. Elmbridge applied for £50,000 of capital to improve play equipment for young people as this was highlighted within research and consultation to be an area for development and this age group were not so well catered for. The Council also topped up this amount by a further £20,000.
The teen equipment needed to offer an increased range of play opportunities and more challenging free play environments. Young people frequently do not have a place that they can call their own or an area that is for them. This project aimed to resolve some of those concerns by providing specific equipment that young people want, will use and benefit them. Young people are now actively using the equipment and areas more than ever having responded very positively to their new equipment.
