London 2012's Pre-Games Training Camp Guide

image of the outside of the Elmbridge Xcel Leisure ComplexOn 14 August 2008, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) went 'live' with their online Pre-Games Training Camp Guide for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Along with many other world-class facilities across the UK, the Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Complex, in Walton-on-Thames, has been identified as a suitable site for national Olympic and Paralympic teams to train in prior to the London Games in August and September 2012.

In the weeks and months leading up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, athletes from around the world will be acclimatising and preparing for the competition, helped by a grant from LOCOG of up to £25,000 for each Olympic and Paralympic Committee to help with their training camp costs.

Xcel itself has been chosen for the Olympic sports of Basketball and Fencing and the Paralympic sports of Boccia, Goalball, Volleyball (sitting), Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Fencing and Wheelchair Rugby.

Other sites in Elmbridge that have also been included in the guide are Surbiton Hockey Club and the ACS Cobham International School.

Surrey County Council has published a guide to all sites chosen across the whole of Surrey. You can visit the guide |online.
