In order to develop the Healthy Walks programme, and to continue to offer a varied programme of walks, we must continue to recruit volunteers. Volunteers are needed to not only lead but to develop and produce newsletters, and co-ordinate the publication of the programme. Volunteers will be asked to lead, or deputy lead, a group only when they feel comfortable doing so.
Volunteers are given full training, developed by the Natural England, and are fully supported by Elmbridge Borough Council's Leisure and Cultural Services Health Development Officer. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer walks leader or deputy leader, you will be required to attend a minimum of one days training, at the Council Office's at the Civic Centre, Esher.
|The Health Development Officer said,
"Walking is an activity that almost everyone can undertake and enjoy at a relatively low cost. The intention of the Healthy Walks programme is that it is open to everyone, not just specifically targeting patients who have been asked to exercise by their GP, but also people who do little exercise."
The Elmbridge Healthy Walks initiative is supported by Natural England's national 'Walking the Way to Health Initiative'.
