This Sporting Life

As part of the 'Elmbridge Celebrates' festival, we're looking for images that celebrate the spirit of sporting life in the Borough. Whether it's the moment of victory, the despair of defeat or the sheer enjoyment of the challenge, we want to see photographs that detail how important sport can be to competitors and supporters alike. So, if it's the sprinter crossing the finishing line or the solitary, lifelong fan sitting alone on a wet and windy terrace, send us your picture and help celebrate Elmbridge's sporting life.

Photography fulfils an important role in archaeology by providing a detailed record should the originals need reconstruction after damage.

The 2012-13 Royston Pike Lecture Series

The 2011/12 Royston Pike Lecture series has now come to a close. Once again it proved to be a great success with a series of talks on a variety of subjects from the anniversary of the King James Bible to Antarctica and the Heroic Age of Polar Exploration.

Already the 2012 series is being prepared and Elmbridge Borough Council are very pleased to welcome back John Pilkington who will present the second part of his 'Stroll Through The Axis of Evil' talk in December as he takes us on a journey from Georgia to Afghanistan.

Keep an eye out for updates on further talks that will make up the 2012 Series.

The Royston Pike Lectures were first introduced by Edgar Royston Pike, formerly Chairman of the Esher Council, as the 'Esher Library Lectures' in the late sixties. In 1974, Elmbridge Borough Council changed the title of these lectures to the 'Royston Pike Lectures' in appreciation of his 20 years work on the Library Committee.

For further details about the Royston Pike Lecture Series or to be included on the mailing list for the 2-12/13 series |click here.
