Energy Efficiency Discount Schemes

Warmth for 1000: Elmbridge Borough Council has teamed up with Climate Energy who are the Managing Agents for the Surrey and Hants Scheme to promote and deliver energy efficiency measures across the Borough. The Scheme covers loft and cavity wall insulation, and may assist with other insulation measures such as internal and external wall insulation and wood fuel boilers for householders not connected to gas. Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre: - Additional free and impartial advice on energy efficiency, smart driving and renewable technologies (such as solar panels) is available from the local Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre. Call 0800 512 012 for details.

Complete a Home Energy Check and save around £270 a year: Saving energy reduces carbon dioxide emissions, one of the main greenhouse gases contributing to climate change. Find out how you can save energy and money by requesting a free home energy check. By completing a short questionnaire you with be sent a personalised report for your property from the Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre showing you how you can save around £270 a year. For those with INTERNET access, the free energy check can also be accessed on line at the |Energy Saving Trust website.

Warm Front Grants: If you own your own home or rent it from a private landlord, you may be eligible for a grant of up to £3,500 (or £6,000 if oil central heating is involved) under the Warm Front Scheme. Grants cover loft and cavity-wall insulation, draught-proofing, hot-water-tank insulation, low energy light-bulbs, gas, electric or oil central heating and glass fronted fires. Applicants meeting the following criteria may be eligible for a Warm Front Grant:

1. Householders aged 60 or over in receipt of one or more means-tested benefits.
2. Householders with a child under 16, or pregnant women with maternity certificate MAT-B1, in receipt of one or more means-tested benefits.
3. Any other householder in receipt of one or more means-tested benefits or disability benefits.

Energy Efficiency Grants: Grants of up to £1,000 are offered by the Council in addition to the national grant programmes such as Warm Front. Applicants will be expected to apply for the national grants initially, where they are eligible. In consultation with the Private Sector Housing Manager, grants can be provided for cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, condensing boilers or any other measures that are considered appropriate to provide adequate insulation. Utility Companies: Check with your gas and electricity supplier as to whether they operate a home insulation scheme. British Gas operates a scheme for their customers. Replacement boilers: If you receive a means tested benefit and meet certain other criteria, you may qualify for a Home Repair Grant to replace your boiler. Even if you don't receive a benefit, you should contact your fuel supplier to enquire about any offers for new boilers. Warm Front (see above) may also be able to provide assistance (n.b. boiler must be inoperable/condemned) - please call 0800 316 2802. Renewable Energy Discounted Packages - Discounted packages are available for a range of technologies including wood fired (biomass) boilers, solar panels, heat pumps and wind turbines.
