Energy Efficiency Discount Schemes

Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre: - Elmbridge Council has teamed up with the local Energy Saving Trust advice centre to provide free and impartial advice on energy efficiency, smart driving and renewable technologies (such as solar panels). The advice centre can also help owner occupiers, landlords and tenants access a range of discounts, subsidies and loans for energy efficiency measures including loft and cavity wall insulation, new boilers and central heating upgrades. People on qualifying benefits, as well as the over 70s, may also be eligible for 100% grants. To find out how you can save money by saving energy call an energy advisor on 0800 512 012.

Complete a Home Energy Check and save around £270 a year: Saving energy reduces carbon dioxide emissions, one of the main greenhouse gases contributing to climate change. Find out how you can save energy and money by requesting a free home energy check by calling your local Energy Saving Trust advice centre on 0800 512 012. By completing a short questionnaire you with be sent a personalised report for your property showing you how you can save around £270 a year. For those with internet access the free energy check can also be accessed online at the |Energy Saving Trust website.

Warm Front Grants: If you own your own home or rent it from a private landlord, you may be eligible for a grant of up to £2,700 (or £4,000 if oil central heating is involved) under the Warm Front Scheme. Grants cover loft and cavity-wall insulation, draught-proofing, hot-water-tank insulation, low energy light-bulbs, gas, electric or oil central heating and glass fronted fires. Applicants meeting the following criteria may be eligible for a Warm Front Grant:

1. Householders aged 60 or over in receipt of one or more means-tested benefits.
2. Householders with a child under 16, or pregnant women with maternity certificate MAT-B1, in receipt of one or more means-tested benefits.
3. Any other householder in receipt of one or more means-tested benefits or disability benefits.

Heat Project: Provides grants for loft and cavity wall insulation that are available to all householders even if you work or have a private pension. FREE insulation is available to households where the occupants are aged over 70, and also to anyone on an income related or disability benefit (not including incapacity benefit or employment and support allowance) but if you already have 60mm of loft insulation, you will not be eligible for free insulation. British Gas: This offer applies to Customers of British Gas only. Householders aged over 70 are entitled to free loft and cavity wall insulation, but if you already have 60mm of loft insulation, you will not be eligible for free insulation. The same package applies to any homeowner or private tenant, including tenants of registered social landlords, who are in receipt of income related or disability benefits regardless of their age. Tenants will require written approval from their landlords to take advantage of the special offer. Funding for free insulation is limited. Replacement boilers: If you receive a means tested benefit and meet certain other criteria, you may qualify for a Home Repair Grant to replace your boiler. Please contact Care and Repair Elmbridge on 01372 474645 or Private Sector Housing on 01372 474625 for further details. Even if you don't receive a benefit, you should contact your fuel supplier to enquire about any offers for new boilers. Warm Front (see above) may also be able to provide assistance (n.b. boiler must be inoperable/condemned) - please call 0800 316 2802. Warm Front also run a £300 Heating Rebate Scheme for people aged over 60. Funding is limited and the scheme runs until 31/3/2009. Call 0800 316 6012.

EDF Energy - Provides free advice on a range of energy saving and renewable energy issues. Dedicated advisors will take you through a step-by-step process to find out what you can do at home to save energy. Homewoners aged over 70 are entitled to free loft and cavity wall insulation, but if you already have 100mm of loft insulation, you will not be entitled to free insulation. The same package applies to private tenants, who are in receipt of income related or disability benefits regardless of their age. Tenants will require written approval from their landlords to take advantage of the special offer. Funding for a subsidised grant towards the insulation is also available if you are not in receipt of the qualifying benefits. Solar and Renewable Energy - Grants are currently available for Solar Electric (photovoltaic) Cells and a range of other technologies including wood fired boilers and ground source heat pumps.
