If you're a business...

The environment is increasingly becoming a business issue as customers become more environmentally aware. The business sector accounts for about a third of water use in the UK it is important for businesses to use water wisely and it makes good financial sense. More businesses are taking advantage of the services offered by their water company, the government and other organisations to help them save money by saving water. Here are some examples of what's available:

Commercial Water Audits

Two water companies in Elmbridge offer businesses free water audits which recommend ways to save money and water. To arrange a water audit for your business contact your water company:

Tax incentives

After the 2001 Budget, the government introduced tax incentives to encourage businesses to invest in equipment that encourages sustainable water use.

The Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme (ECA) enables businesses to claim 100% first year capital allowances on investments in technologies and products that encourage sustainable water use. Businesses are now able to write off the whole cost of their investment against their taxable profits of the period during which they make the investment.
