The environment is increasingly becoming a business issue as customers become more environmentally aware and given that the business sector accounts for about a third of water use in the UK it is important for businesses to use water wisely. It makes good financial sense too - wasting water means wasting money so more and more businesses are taking advantage of the services offered by their water company, the government and other organisations to help them save money by saving water. Here are some examples of what's available:
Commercial Water Audits
All three water companies in our Borough offer Elmbridge's businesses free water audits which recommend ways to save money and water. To arrange a water audit for your business contact your water company:

Envirowise
Envirowise is an organisation which provides free, confidential, hands-on advice to UK businesses to help increase profitability and reduce environmental impact. Envirowise offers information on water conservation tailored to your industry and can arrange site visits to identify ways your business can save money by saving water. Visit the |Envirowise website to find out what they can do for you.
Tax incentives
After the 2001 Budget, the government introduced tax incentives to encourage businesses to invest in equipment that encourages sustainable water use.
The Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme (ECA) enables businesses to claim 100% first year capital allowances on investments in technologies and products that encourage sustainable water use. Businesses are now able to write off the whole cost of their investment against their taxable profits of the period during which they make the investment.
You can find out what products qualify under this scheme from the |ECA website
Elmbridge Business Network
