Here at Elmbridge Borough Council we are also doing our bit to save water. Last year, a group of councillors has been investigating the way that we use water in our own property. This has highlighted lots of good work already going on such as installing giant water butts to catch rainwater for use at recreation grounds and also recommended ways for the Council to use water more wisely.
One of the group's main findings was that the smaller water-saving measures are often the most effective at reducing wastage. Following the councillors' recommendations we have promised to:
We have also set ourselves a challenging target to reduce our water use by almost 25% by 2009.

Nicci Russell, Head of Policy, Waterwise, says:
"Waterwise congratulates Elmbridge Borough Council on its plans to waste less water. Setting a reduction target, considering rainwater recycling on all new council developments, and working with residents and local businesses to save water will all lead to significant water savings, and Waterwise wholeheartedly welcomes them. In the face of climate change and the building of more and more homes for us to live in, we all need to waste less water, through simple measures like turning the tap off when we brush our teeth and taking shorter showers rather than baths.
