Elmbridge Environmental Forum
Mission
The mission of Elmbridge Environmental Forum is to promote and help build a sustainable future in and around Elmbridge for people, wildlife and the environment.
Its members believe that a sustainable future is vitally important. We need to reduce our ecological footprint and find ways to overcome problems like climate change, traffic congestion, waste and loss of wildlife. At present, resources are being used at an unsustainable rate.
We would like to develop rich and fulfilling lives, reconnect with nature and wildlife, and leave a better world for our children and grandchildren.

History
The Elmbridge Environmental Forum (EEF) started as a Local Agenda 21 group, an initiative proposed by the UN Commission on Environment and Development (Chapter 21) 1992 which proposed that the local environment is best protected by local people utilising their own energies for their own actions.
In Elmbridge, this started in 1997 as TASC 21 (Towards a Sustainable Community) but by 2000 it was felt that the name didn't really register with the public, and we became the Environmental Forum.
The EEF is part of the |Elmbridge Community Partnership and as such co-ordinates the delivery of the environment theme in the Elmbridge |Sustainable Community Strategy. It provides the interface with local communities on environmental and sustainability issues and is a community/voluntary sector forum.
The Community Strategy sets out local themes and actions to reflect different public service, voluntary and business interests. The strategy is used to inform local planning policy and concentrate minds on sustainability issues. We have been particularly involved in issues to do with social responsibility and quality of life indicators.
