HSE or Local Authority - Who is Responsible?
The HSE is the national independent watchdog for work-related health, safety and illness. The HSE (along with local authorities) enforce health and safety law in workplaces throughout Great Britain.
The Employment Medical Advisory Service (EMAS), is part of the HSE giving advice on all aspects of occupational health and aiming to promote awareness of health-related matters in the workplace. It is staffed by doctors and nurses who give advice on effects of particular work activities on health and effects of health on work.
The Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) is an in-house research centre which carries out investigation work and provides scientific services arising from day-to-day operations.
