Guidelines are set out as the Elmbridge Enforcement Policy under the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act and related legislation.
The Elmbridge Enforcement Policy is based on the Government's Enforcement Concordat. Our Policy will be updated in the light of any advice issued by the central government, such as the Health & Safety Commission (HSC) or the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
The aim of the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act is to protect employees and the public by preventing accidents and illness in workplaces.
The enforcement responsibility is divided between the Local Authority (Elmbridge Council's |Environmental Health & Licensing Division) and the HSE. A fully comprehensive list of who inspects which premises can be seen at the |Health and Safety Executive website (under Enforcing Authority).
In addition to inspections we can also take formal legal action against businesses that flout the law.
