Council Seeks Views of the Taxi Trade on Ranks (January 2012)
Elmbridge licensed taxi drivers will recall the recent invitation to attend a meeting at the Civic Centre to discuss taxi ranks in the borough. This meeting took place on 11 January 2012 and was an opportunity for trade members to talk with both the Chairman of the Licensing Committee and officers. |The notes of the meeting are now available.
Council Action against Use of Unlicensed Vehicles & Drivers (August 2011)
Following a recent upsurge in sightings of Public Carriage Office (PCO) vehicles within Elmbridge, the Council has written to all multi-vehicle Private Hire Elmbridge Operators to remind them that allocating jobs to PCO vehicles is illegal. You can |view a copy of the letter here.
Taxi Fares Notification - Closed (July 2011)
The recent taxi fares consultation closed on 28 July 2011 and |the fares have been increased in accordance with the original proposal. All vehicle licence holders should receive a new fare chart and details of where and when to get taxi meters re-set in the post on 29 July 2011.

On 14 July 2011, the Council formally advertised its intention to increase taxi fares. All members of the public and taxi drivers were entitled to comment within the relevant time period (until close of business 28 July 2011).
Taxi Rank at Hersham Station to Close (June 2011)
Licensed taxi drivers will be aware of the taxi rank which was created a couple of years ago in Walton Park car park serving Hersham station. After undertaking a passenger survey and in the light of feedback from the trade, a decision has been taken that the rank is underused and is therefore to be closed. The lining will be removed in due course.
No New Taxi Ranks to be created at Train Stations (June 2011)
Further to the trade's ongoing requests for the creation of more taxi ranks at rail stations in Elmbridge, the Council has, for some time, been in negotiations with South West Trains about creating additional ranks on their land. These negotiations have been concluded and the outcome is that, regrettably, South West Trains are unable to make land available for more ranks.
Public Safety is Paramount (May 2011)
The Council has recently revoked the licence of a Hackney Carriage driver after the driver was convicted of assaulting a female passenger over a fare dispute.
Thankfully, instances of driver behaviour such as this are rare but where they do occur the Council will move quickly to protect the public.
