Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Information
Elmbridge Borough Council licences Hackney Carriages (taxis) and Private Hire vehicles (minicabs, executive and chauffeur driven) within the Borough of Elmbridge. Taxis have the right to apply for hire and to use taxi ranks as well as take bookings from customers. Private Hire vehicles must be pre-booked with a licensed operator.
Anyone interested in becoming a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire driver must:
- satisfactorily complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check
- have a medical with his/her General Practitioner prior to making a licence application
- complete a knowledge test
- pass (or produce evidence of having passed) a Driving Standards Agency (DSA) test specific to private hire and hackney carriage drivers
- produce an overseas certificate of good conduct (if applicable).
Once the results of these checks are available, an application for a driver's licence can be made and processed.
|All application forms are available to download, or can be obtained directly from Environmental Health & Licensing at the Civic Centre in Esher.
