Appeal against a Food Hygiene Rating

If a food business operator strongly disagrees with an inspection score a written appeal should be made to the Head of Environmental Health & Licensing, within 14 days of the inspection, setting out specific reasons for the disagreement.

The inspection score will then be reviewed with the inspecting officer and the Food & Safety Manager and if considered appropriate, the rating will be adjusted and published on the next update of the Food Hygiene Ratings web pages (usually 2 week intervals).

The decision of the Head of Environmental Health & Licensing will be final, and the food business operator will be informed of the decision in writing.
