Additional Food Hygiene Inspections

Circumstances may arise that make it appropriate to bring forward a full inspection.

Some examples include:

• if there is a significant change in the ownership, management or nature of a food business
• where an authorised officer discovers serious hygiene defects at a business, which has previously scored well
• as a result of a consumer complaint
• during the course of an investigation of a food poisoning case/outbreak.

In such circumstances, the next full inspection can be brought forward and a revised score awarded.

Similarly, in certain circumstances, if a food business operator is concerned with the star rating given he/she may apply to the Council to have an additional full inspection carried out before the next inspection is due. This inspection will be carried out without prior appointment, on receipt of payment to the Council of a fee, as detailed below. The rating allocated to the food business as a result of this inspection will then form the new star rating, which will be published and remain valid until the next programmed inspection. This optional service for a food business to request an additional inspection will only be available once per normal programmed inspection cycle of a food business.

• 0 or 1 star rated premises - £175.00
• 4, 3 or 2 star rated premises - £145.00

On receipt of your completed form and payment we will arrange for an officer in the Food & Safety Team to undertake an unannounced food hygiene inspection.
