Dog fouling is unpleasant and a potential health risk. Owners have a responsibility to clean up after their pets.
It is an offence, under the Dogs Fouling of Land Act 1996, for an owner not to clear up after allowing their dog to foul in undesignated areas such as a public footpath. If you don't remove your dog's waste you are liable for a fixed penalty fine of £50. The maximum fine for failing to clear up after a dog is £1,000.
