What can I put in my food waste bin?
You can put the following in your food waste bin:
- meal leftovers
- fruit & vegetable peelings
- meat & fish
- bones, fat & gristle
- rice, pasta, beans & cereals
- cheese, yogurt & eggs shells
- tea bags & coffee grounds
- bread, cakes & pastries
- mouldy & out-of-date food
Please make sure you do not put in packaging of any sort, plastic bags, liquids, oil or fat.
What can I put in my recycling bin (blue top bin)?
You can put the following in your recycling bin:
- NEW! All plastic containers as well as plastic bottles, including:
- yogurt pots
- margarine and ice cream tubs
- food trays (any colour)
- all bottles (any colour) including drinks, household cleaning, personal hygiene and shampoo bottles
- container lids (please remove lids and place them in the blue top bin separately) - Paper (including shredded paper contained in a paper bag or sheet of newspaper, paper with staples or glue and envelopes with windows and stamps)
- Cardboard (an extra bundle of cardboard boxes, as long as they are flattened and tied with string, can be placed next to your bin for collection)
- Cans, tins & aluminium foil
- Glass, bottles & jars any colour (Do not wrap or bag your glass even it is broken)
There are still some types of plastics that can not go in your blue top recycling bin.
- Please make sure you do not put in:
- cling film
- plastic toys
- flower pots
- carrier bags
- polystyrene
- tetra-packs (e.g. milk and juice cartons) can be taken to your |local recycling centre. - Please also do not put in food waste, garden waste, shoes, clothing and textiles, or batteries, aerosols and foil. Batteries and cartons can be taken to the tip, local recycling centres or (if possible) returned to the shop.
What can I put in my refuse bin?
Nearly everything that is thrown into your refuse bin goes to landfill so please make sure that it's not something that could be recycled or composted. This may include:
- Rubbish that cannot be recycled using any of our other services
- Disposable nappies
- Pyrex
- Pet litter
Please make sure you do not put in any of the following:
- Soil and stones
- Paint tins
- Chemicals
- Business waste

- Plastic pots, tubs and trays as these can now go in your blue top bin

For any item of waste that we do not collect, you should be able to take to |your Community Recycling Centre ('the tip').
What can I put in my garden waste bin or sacks?|
You can put the following in your garden waste bin:
- Grass cuttings
- Garden prunings
- Leaves
- Small twigs
- Woody waste
- Dead plants/weeds
- Branches no thicker than 7cm (3")
Please make sure you do not put in any soil, stones or gravel, timber or sawdust, food waste, pet litter, cardboard, paper, glass or metal, as these must all be disposed of separately.
