This innovative film, which has been produced by Elmbridge Borough Council, |explains how to use your food waste collection service, including what you can put into your food waste bin and what happens to it after we collect it.
The introduction of the weekly food waste collection service 2 years ago, as part of the Elmbridge bin collection service, has enabled us to boost our recycling levels to around 51%. We have been a leader in helping develop food recycling collections and operated one of the national pilots which included 6,500 homes.
|Cllr. Glenn Dearlove, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:
"Food waste makes up around a quarter of what a typical home in Elmbridge throws away. It's important that this waste is collected and composted rather than sent for disposal at landfill sites where it rots to produce methane adding to climate change. And with the majority of homes now online, we're really keen to make it as easy as possible for busy homes and families to find out how the weekly food recycling collection service will work."
The Council received £3000 from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to produce the film. The actresses and actors are members of staff from the Council and their families.
