The fortnightly Garden Waste Collection Service is an easy way to compost your garden waste. If home composting isn't practical or if you have too much garden waste, then this convenient collection service is the answer.

What can I put in my garden waste bin?
If you use the sack service, please distribute the weight of your garden waste evenly between the two sacks. The collector struggles with overfilled and heavy sacks, which can lead to injury. If you struggle to lift them, then so will they. Please also ensure that the garden waste does not exceed the top of the two sacks as this can make them difficult to manoeuvre.

How much does it cost?
You can choose to have your garden waste collected from either 1or 2 brown-top wheeled bins, or 2 reusable sacks. The charges per year are as follows:
- 1 wheeled bin: £33* (plus £39 for the one-off purchase of a wheeled bin).
- 2 wheeled bins: £66* (plus £78 for the one-off purchase of 2 wheeled bins).
- 2 sacks: £30* (sacks included).
*These charges are subject to change.
Concessionary charges are available if you receive Council Tax Benefit or Housing benefit (excluding Council Tax discounts). To enquire about this option please call the |Environmental Care team.
Where do I get my bin/s/sacks?
You can order your garden waste bins or sacks through the Council when you subscribe to the service. These will then be delivered by the collection crew 10 - 14 working days after you complete your subscription. Your year's subscription won't begin until you receive your sacks or bin.
Alternatively, you can buy the proper garden waste bins from Garsons Farm, Winterdown Road, Esher, which may suit you if you already have some garden waste that needs storing before your subscription starts. If you buy your bin at Garsons, you must still call the Council to register (do not register online) and pay the subscription charge. Please note that it will still take 10 - 14 working days for your garden waste collection service to start.
All garden waste subscriptions are subject to |Terms & Conditions. Please contact the| Environmental Care team if you have any queries or you require more information.

What about home composting?
Get composting today - for a greener tomorrow
Whether you're a keen gardener or just want to choose the greenest, most natural way to deal with your food and garden waste, composting is the perfect solution.
Grass cuttings, dried leaves, twigs and vegetable peelings are just some of the ingredients that can go into a compost bin or heap to make peat-free compost - ideal to use in potting or planting.
Getting started is easy. All you need is a compost bin or a small space in the garden to create a heap. Then just follow our |easy guide to creating your own supply of natural food for your garden.
To buy a bin from only £14 or to find out how to make your own, visit |Surrey Composting.
Alternatively, you could take your garden waste to a |Community Recycling Centre ('the tip').
