Clothes Collection Service
(Shoes, Books, CDs & DVDs)
Since January you've donated 21 tonnes of your clothes, shoes, books, CDs and DVD's to the British Heart Foundation and helped to raise over £785 for local charities Princess Alice Hospice and The Royal Cambridge Home. (last updated 1/5/12)
Thank you
How it works
We're working with the British Heart Foundation to trial for 6 months, a charity kerbside collection for clothes, shoes, books, CDs & DVDs. We're carrying out collections in areas that have recycling collected on a Tuesday or Wednesday. The majority of households in these areas will be offered the service - although some (e.g. flats) will not be included.
All items collected will be donated to the British Heart Foundation who will sell them and raise money to help save more lives. As the collected items are being reused or recycled, there will also be savings on disposal costs that we will pass on to other local charities. The nominated local charities for the trial are the Princess Alice Hospice and The Royal Cambridge Home.
Already donate to charity?
If you already donate your clothes, books and other items to a charity, that's great and please continue to do so.
What happens next?
Save up your unwanted clothes, shoes, books, CDs & DVDs.
Put them in a bag.
We'll place a 'Care to Recycle' notice on your recycling bin, 2 weeks before we collect in your area. When you receive your notice, keep it and hook it onto your bag to help the collection crew.
Put your bag out for collection on your next recycling collection day 2 weeks from receiving your 'Care to Recycle' hanger.
What do we collect?
Please make sure your items are clean and in good saleable condition:
- Clothes
- Shoes
- CDs
- DVDs
- Bags, belts and other accessories
Please don't include broken items or electricals and furniture. We also can't accept home recorded CDs and DVD. You can use our |recycling A-Z for more information on what to do with these items.
What do I do if I think my bag has been missed?
Our collectors will be working in your area between 7am and 3pm. If your bag has not been picked up by the end of their working day then please report it to us so we can arrange to collect it. You can do this by |phone, email or |text. Please take your bag(s) in from the kerbside and when we return, we will collect from the doorstep. Your bags might have been left if they contained items that we can't accept, so please check this first before contacting us.
How do I know it was taken by the right person?
Our collection team wear a uniform and high visibility jackets with the BHF or Veolia logos. The van they use is also clearly labelled.
If you think someone else has taken your bags then you should report it directly to the British Heart Foundation who record information on bag thefts with other members of the Charity Retail Association so it can be investigated. Contact the dedicated reporting line on 0800 138 6556 (voicemail outside office hours) and give as much information as you can.
