I have lived in Oxshott for nearly 23 years. Both my children were educated locally. My daughter, Michelle, is now a paediatric ward sister at Southampton General Hospital whilst my son, Chris, teaches modern languages in Bideford, North Devon. When I first moved to the area, I became the secretary of the local guides organisation and then moved on to become the secretary of a combined scouts and guides fundraising group. For many years I was involved with the Oxshott Christmas Fair and had the honour of chairing the Fair for 8 years. Like many residents of the area, I still feel withdrawal symptoms every autumn! I am a Trustee of Oxshott Care which does a magnificent job transporting residents to their hospital appointments. I was elected as a Councillor for the Oxshott and Stoke D'Abernon ward in May 2004 and since then I have always been a member of the Area Planning Committee. I am very conscious that the decision of this committee can have a huge effect on the residents and I do try to take a proactive approach to all applications in this ward. I always welcome contact from residents who feel they may have a problem with an application. In May 2007, I joined the Cabinet as the Portfolio Holder for Corporate Development. I found this fascinating as it gave me the opportunity to influence many aspects of the way that the Council is run. In May 2008, I became the Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure. This is a very wide-ranging portfolio that covers aspects of Elmbridge that impinge on most the lives of most residents of the Borough. It covers such things as the Leisure Centre, Museum, Commons, Cemeteries, Theatre and Public Conveniences! I am still getting to know the Portfolio but I do believe that we have some fantastic assets in our Borough. In my spare time, I enjoy playing Bridge and Travelling. I do not hold regular surgeries but I am always here to help. Please email me or ring me. |
