A fine specimen of Christmas Tree Abies Koreana, over 3m high and about 20 years old was planted on Hersham Village Green in a permanent position for everyone to enjoy. The tree was organised by Cllr Ian Donaldson. The local Hersham Councillors paid for it with the help of Elmbridge Borough Council. Laura Richardson, EBC Parks Development Officer, Parks & Recreation Section was extremely helpful and greatly assisted the councillors in acquiring this beautiful tree. The tree is decorated with 280 solar powered led lights which automatically switch on and off at dusk and dawn respectively. This green alternative saved the huge cost of installing electricity. Carols and festive songs were sung by the councillors accompanied by their grandchildren together with others who attended the 'opening' and then Deputy Mayor, Cllr John Sheldon and his wife Cllr Mary Sheldon formally switched on the Christmas tree lights. He said the location of the tree was excellent and had filled a space on Hersham Green to everyone's enjoyment. He also dedicated the tree to Cllr Ian Donaldson's wife's parents, Mr & Mrs Basil Reed, long time Hersham residents. Penny Donaldson was delighted at the kind thought. This festive addition to Hersham's landscape will be enjoyed for years to come.
