Elmbridge was pleased to welcome a delegation of representatives from the South Korean Embassy and Councillors from the South West Island Province of Jeju, South Korea. They were keen to find out about the local government structures, specifically working arrangements between the County, Borough and Parish Councils. A presentation through an interpreter was given by Beverley Greenstein, Councillor Barbara Cowin and Councillor Geoff Herbert at the Civic Centre on 15 November 2011. We exchanged civic gifts and the photographic book of the island of Jeju.

Prior to the May Elections 2011, Councillor Ms. Barbara Cowin, together with other Walton Ward Councillors met the Prime Minister, David Cameron, at a venue in Woking, Surrey.
On the 27 September, 2010, a short service was held to commemorate the 70 year anniversary of when Flight Sergeant Charles Sydney, crashed his spitfire in Station Avenue, Walton on Thames. The service was attended by the Mayor of Elmbridge, local Councillors and local residents, one of whom recalls seeing the spitfire. The plaque was laid by Elmbridge Borough Council 10 years ago. We will shortly be trying to see if we can contact any of Charles Sydney's relatives as this memorial may be of interest to them. |
