Councillor Grey is a Conservative Member and a Long Ditton Ward Member. Cllr and Mrs. Grey I have been a Councillor since May 2008, and the early lustre has not worn off. The work is still as exciting and challenging as ever. I am particularly concerned to gain as much knowledge of the systems and infrastructure of Elmbridge so as to get the best possible results for our community. As a member of the |East Area Planning Sub-Committee, I am keen to promote the interests of Long Ditton residents and fight the insidious spread of over-development. My knowledge of Planning Law and Policy has been further enhanced with my recent appointment as Chair of the full |Planning Committee. Whilst a demanding role it has helped me to shape our view of Elmbridge for the years to come and given me a real insigth into the policy and anatomy of Planning. In addition I am Chair of the joint CHairs and Vice-Chairs Planning Group, and Chair of the Local Development Framework (LDF) Working Group. In addition I am a member of the |Overview & Scrutiny Committee, which gives me a real opportunity to have a definite sense of the way in which the Council functions and how we as a Council can best promote the interests of our communities through a sensitive and user friendly structure and pro-active approach to local Government. I am looking forward to the challenge of being part of the Constitutional working group due to commence in , and looking at a review of the Council's current constitution. I hope that with careful changes it can help the Council to operate as smoothly and seamlessly as possible in the coming years. I am also a member of the |Elmbridge Local Committee, which is a Committee of Surrey Couny Council and acts as the interface between the two authorities. I have found that by being a part of this Committee I can liaise with those in the County Council to seek solutions to problems and issues and to build up a meaningful dialogue. I have lived in the Dittons for 8 years with my wife Trudy, our 2 year old son Patrick and 5 month old daughter Zara. I am passionate about preserving the good elements of the area and tackling the bad. I am very keen to work in partnership with other organisations to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in constructive and thoughtful ways, as well as continuing to highlight the ever present problems of the roads and their condition to the County Council. I am also committed to helping the new Elmbridge sports programme for children in Long Ditton. My enjoyment of sport extends to rugby, cricket, |Surrey CCC, and football, |Liverpool FC, although I rarely get the chance to play, which I am sure is a constant source of disappointment to Rafael Benitez! I am the Council's link representative to the Surrey County Playing Fields Association (SCPFA) a division of the |National Playing Fields Association (NPFA). I have lived in Surrey all my life. I was brought up in West Clandon, near Guildford, and went to school in Ripley, before going onto |Claremont in Esher. I then spent a brief period in Norwich at the |University of East Anglia where I read Law. I graduated and went to |The Inns of Court School of Law where I trained as a barrister. I thereafter practised in crime, and have recently diversified into regulatory law. I am also a trustee of |Familyline a Surrey based helpline charity offering support to families or those experiencing family problems. In addition I am a governor of a local Independent school. I am a fan of opera, fine art, and an enthusiastic novice in the garden and the kitchen. |
