Cllr and Mrs. Grey

I have been a Councillor since May 2008, and the early lustre has not worn off. The work is still as exciting and challenging as ever. I am particularly concerned to gain as much knowledge of the systems and infrastructure of Elmbridge so as to get the best possible results for our community. As a member of the |East Area Planning Sub-Committee, I am keen to promote the interests of Long Ditton residents and fight the insidious spread of over-development.

In addition I am a member of the |Corporate Affairs Overview & Scrutiny Committee, which gives me a real opportunity to have a definite sense of the way in which the Council functions and how we as a Council can best promote the interests of our communities through a sensitive and user friendly corporate structure.

I am also a member of the |Overview & Scrutiny Standing Finance Panel, which involves checking that the money we spend goes to the right places, and delivers the services that so many rely upon. As well as these more formal roles I am a member of MEAG, an internal group looking at issues of employee concern throughout the Council, and ensuring as far as possible that Elmbridge Borough Council remains one of the best places to work, in one of the best Boroughs, in the UK.

I have lived in the Dittons for 6 years with my wife Trudy, as well as most recently my 15 month old son Patrick. I am passionate about preserving the good elements of the area and tackling the bad. I am very keen to work in partnership with other organisations to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in constructive and thoughtful ways, as well as continuing to highlight the ever present problems of the roads and their condition to the County Council.

I am also committed to helping the new Elmbridge sports programme for children in Long Ditton. My enjoyment of sport extends to rugby, cricket, |Surrey CCC, and football, |Liverpool FC, although I rarely get the chance to play, which I am sure is a constant source of disappointment to Rafael Benitez! I am the Council's link representative to the Surrey County Playing Fields Association (SCPFA) a division of the |National Playing Fields Association (NPFA).

I have lived in Surrey all my life. I was brought up in West Clandon, near Guildford, and went to school in Ripley, before going onto |Claremont in Esher. I then spent a brief period in Norwich at the |University of East Anglia where I read Law. I graduated and went to |The Inns of Court School of Law where I trained as a barrister. I thereafter practised in crime, and have recently diversified into regulatory law. In addition I am a fan of opera, fine art, and an enthusiastic novice in the garden and the kitchen.
