Councillor Peter Harman is a St George's Hill Independent Member and St George's Hill Ward Councillor. St George's Hill Independents are committed to serving not only residents of this Ward but Elmbridge as a whole. We will keep you informed through our regular newsletters and listen to your views. Claire Gibbins and I will make every attempt to reply to your concerns or queries within a couple of days, as we appreciate how frustrating it can be when enquiries are ignored or unnecessarily delayed. II am delighted to have been elected to serve a further 4 years as Ward Councillor for St George's Hill Ward following local elections on 5th May. I would like to thank all those who voted for me and will fulfil the promises in my manifesto. I would also like to welcome and congratulate the new Mayor of Elmbridge Cllr John Sheldon and his wife Mary. I am delighted their chosen charity for the year is Sam Beare Hospice, a charity we at St Georges Hill Independents support wholeheartedly.. I sent the petition signed by over 300 customers of South West Trains to Andy Pitt, Managing Director. Following several telephone calls to SWT who did not even have the courtesy to acknowledge receipt of the petition I have learnt they have dismissed your appeals as commercially unachievable, despite posting large profit for the year 2010/2011. I believe this shows utter contempt for their customers as SWT put profit before your well being. I have arranged a meeting next Tuesday with the Station Manager to discuss safety issues around station approach. Rather like the long drawn out 5 year battle with Network Rail over the footpath, I am like a dog with a bone so I will not go away or give up until there is a satisfactory outcome . I will be sending a letter to our MP the Rt Hon Phillip Hammond who is also the Government Transport Secretary,. I have received a very short reply from our MP stating he had approached SWT and they cited revenue protection as the reason for not opening the ramp and considering the station gates are often unmanned this seems a rather lame excuse. I will continue to fight this. SCC Controlled Parking Controlled parking proposals have now been delegated the Elmbridge Local Committee. It is expected these proposals are expected to be dismissed by this committee meaning new local charges will not apply. This is common sense as on street parking charges would be a disaster for local business particularly in the Queens Road area Claire Gibbins and I met with Mercedes on Friday 18th March to represent residents and discuss issues and concerns brought to our attention. Agreement was reached to install Matrix speed signs along Wellington Way. This application has been approved.
Olympic cycle race in Surrey. Judging by the crowds that turned out for the cycle race test event I believe this will be a great event when the actual Olympics are under way in June 2012. There were some issues with the time organisers took to reopen roads that were closed but I am sure lessons were learnt from the test event and will not be repeated .
