I am one of three Conservative Councillors for Hersham North and have lived in Elmbridge for almost 40 years - nearly 30 of which have been in Hersham. Born and educated in Salisbury, Wiltshire I then spent some years working in radio and TV production at the BBC, covering a wide variety of programmes from Mrs Dale's Dairy to Points of View and Film '71 (now still running as Film 2008 !). Marriage followed (to John Sheldon, Councillor for Hersham South), we have 3 grown-up children and one very imminent first grandchild due to arrive in late November. In 1976 we moved to Italy for a 4 year period, returning to England in 1980 to live in Hersham. For some years I worked as a voluntary organiser for Age Concern Elmbridge, combining this role with that of part-time work in market research. Being a Councillor means listening and speaking up strongly for all local residents on many issues. It also means I can represent the Council on external organisations and I am fortunate to do this as a Trustee of Walton on Thames Charity. Along with my fellow Hersham North Councillors, Ian Donaldson and Doug Packer, together with Lara Conaway, John O'Reilly and John Sheldon in Hersham South, we work as a united team to serve the community. I am currently a member of the Environmental Affairs Overview and Scrutiny Committee, and Chairman of the North Area Planning Sub-Committee. Also a member of the Improving Recycling Task Group, Affordable Housing Member Panel and the Future of Walton Playhouse Task Group. Please don't hesitate to call me if you are a constituent and have an issue or problem with Elmbridge Borough Council.
