Councillor Cheyne is a Conservative Member and an Oatlands Park Ward Councillor.

He is Deputy Mayor of the Borough for the year 2009/10

He is also the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Vice-Chairman of the West Area Planning Sub-Committee for 2009/10.

In addition to the committees mentioned above, Cllr Cheyne is a member of the Licensing Committee, The Community Affairs Overview & Scrutiny Committee and the Appointments Sub Committee.

Other appointments include trustee of the R C Sherriff Trust, Vice Chairman and trustee of the Walton Charity, member of the Elmbridge Sports Council and Trustee of the Mayors Charity and ACE
