Elmbridge Community Awards

Elmbridge Community Awards 2008

The last celebratory evening was chaired by his Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Nigel Cooper on 9th October 2008 to celebrate the tremendous support volunteers throughout Elmbridge provide to their community. It is estimated that over 5,000 volunteers provide help and support from supporting the delivery of Meals on Wheels, providing activities for people with learning disabilities to counselling services.

26 nominations were received and those nominees, along with a guest attended the ceremony held in the Council Chambers at the Council Offices in Esher.

The award winners were:

  • Margaret Scurlock
  • Joy Woodhead
  • Monica Moorby
  • Lulu Button and
  • John Watford

Unfortunately two award winners Monica Moorby and Lulu Button were not able to attend the ceremony and will be receiving their awards at a later date.

The Mayor who is the Elmbridge Borough Council's Volunteer Champion was delighted to be able to present the awards on the evening saying "The community owe a huge debt of gratitude to the volunteers who selflessly give their time to improve the day to day life of others. It is an honour and a pleasure to publicly acknowledge them".

One award winner John Watford said of receiving his silver frame " I am thrilled to receive my award. I enjoy my volunteering and it gives me great satisfaction to help those that use the Centres for Retired People"

The sponsorship once again was kindly given by Procter and Gamble, which enabled those attending to enjoy a wonderful buffet.
