Ageing Well for all in Elmbridge and Surrey
100 delegates from across a spectrum of Surrey's Health and Social care agencies attended an "Ageing Well in Surrey" summit at Elmbridge' Civic Centre on Monday 18th of July. The main aims were to share ideas towards an Ageing Health and Wellbeing Strategy, which would see Surrey's ageing population into a favourable future and also to review Elmbridge's Older Person's Strategy, which concludes this year.
The event, which was opened by the Mayor, |Cllr John Sheldon, saw experts from Elmbridge and Spelthorne Borough Councils, Surrey County Council, the Primary Care Trust and the Local Government Improvement and Development Agency address the delegates. The day sought to allow all present to discuss a variety of issues facing elderly people, from social isolation to eating properly.
After the summit, |Cllr Christine Elmer, Social Affairs Portfolio holder commented,
"An increasing ageing population is going to be a challenge for everyone now and in the future, so it's important to hold events like this; it means all the partners involved can get together and raise issues collectively. Everything that has been discussed today has been taken on board and it is now our job to work in partnership to tackle the issues and challenges strategically and relevantly. We've had good representation today from across Surrey, especially from the voluntary sector, which is really encouraging to see."
This summit is the first of three Surrey Health and Social Care Joint Training Partnership sponsored Ageing Well events that are going to be held across Surrey in the near future. Further information from the day can be viewed by looking at the following presentations:
