How Can I Vote by Post?

Anybody who is registered to vote can apply to vote by post, without having to give a reason. You can apply for a postal vote for all elections or just for one kind (e.g. local elections). You can have a postal vote permanently or for a limited period (e.g. if you're on holiday). Your ballot papers will be sent to your registered (home) address unless you ask for them to be sent to another address (e.g. at university). If you want your ballot papers sent to another address you have to state why.

Each person must fill in a separate application form. You must sign and date the form and state your date of birth. When we send you your ballot paper(s) we will ask you to sign and state your date of birth again. We will not use this information for any purpose other than to confirm your identity when you vote by post.

The deadline to apply to vote by post is 11 working days before an election.

We will send you your ballot paper(s) by first class post about eight working days before polling day. We will include a pre-paid first class envelope for you to return your paper(s) in.
