Planning and Building Control
Whether you're looking to start a new business in Elmbridge or relocate to new premises, Elmbridge Borough Council can provide advice about planning permission and building control regulations.
In most instances Elmbridge Borough Council is responsible for reviewing planning applications from the business sector. However, applications for activities which have a significant impact on the environment, (mineral extraction or incinerators) or which have an impact on the services we provide (such as schools or fire stations) are the responsibility of Surrey County Council.

Planning Permission from the Council will usually be required to make any material changes in the way a business premises is used, such as the introduction of heavy industry or the reduction in retail use, or to run a business from home. More guidance can be given by contacting the |Planning Division. More information regarding how this may effect the need for other licences and permits or the amount of rates to be paid can be found above.
