Business Licences and Permits

Many activities require licences, some of which are issued by Elmbridge Borough Council, others by Surrey County Council.

You may need to have a |fire certificate and comply with |fire safety regulations, particularly if you manage premises used for public entertainment.

|Surrey Trading Standards are responsible for licensing the following:

The storing or selling of petroleum or hazardous substances such as explosives or fireworks
Special personal treatments such as massage
There are also |restrictions on the age of people allowed to buy certain goods, such as cigarettes and alcohol.

|Environmental Health & Licensing can provide advice and are responsible for licensing the following:

sale of alcohol
public entertainment
personal treatments including skin piercing and tattooing
food premises registration
animal welfare - including animal boarding, pet shops, riding establishments and keeping dangerous animals
gambling
taxis and minicabs
street collections by charities
fruit machines
lottery operations
environmental permits.

Highways

If you are putting banners, bunting, festive lights, skips, scaffolding or building materials on public roads, |you will need a licence. You will also need a licence for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), or if you intend to operate a public weighbridge.
