Healthy at Work - How can my business get involved?

Leadership is the key to a healthy workplace. Health promotion initiatives will only be effective under conducive managerial conditions, primarily those that stimulate employee job satisfaction.

To address each health issue, a programme of health promotion should be developed which covers a range of activities and initiatives. These could include:

  • Information campaigns
  • Activities and events
  • Development of policy
  • Participation in local schemes and awards
  • Staff seminars

A good place to start is to find out the key health issues in your workplace. The development of a needs assessment helps to:

  • Make activities relevant to staff needs
  • Provide important information to help prioritise health issues and to inform the development of action plans to address the issues
  • Secure higher participation rates and a more effective health promotion programme
  • Involve the workforce in health at work and raises awareness of health promotion
