What is Right to Buy?

Right to Buy is a scheme that allows social housing tenants to buy the property they live in from their landlord at a discount.
If you are a tenant of Elmbridge Housing Trust and your tenancy transferred to Elmbridge Housing Trust from Elmbridge Borough Council in March 2000, then you may have the 'Preserved Right to Buy'. You should contact the

As of 2 April 2012, the maximum discount available under Right to Buy has now increased from 38,000 to 75,000.

The discount you can get is based on:

  • how long you've been a tenant
  • where you live
  • the type of property you're buying (a flat or a house)
